Review
This is a shareware file compression utility for Windows. With this tool, you can open, extract and create compressed archives. You can use AlphaZIP, for instance, to compress your party photos and send them to your party friends.
It supports the creation of 7z, zip, gz, jar, lha, lzh, cab, tar, uue and xxe archives and can open and extract ace, arc, arj, rar, zoo, 7z, zip, gz, jar, lha, lzh, cab, tar, uue and xxe archives. So, it must fulfill all you daily file compression requirements.
It's compatible with Windows Windows Vista, XP, ME, 2000, 98, Server 2003, 95 and NT 4.0 with Internet Explorer installed. And it's available only in English.
The main feature of this program is its ease of use. If you feel confused, shocked or depressed using other file compression utilities, then you should try AlphaZip. Its interface is quite simple. As you can see in the screenshots, it's mainly composed by four items: Open, Create, Settings and Help.
When you click on Open, a file dialog appears asking for the location of the compressed archive you want to open. Then the archive is opened in a new window. This is slightly different from other file compression utilities because the standard is to open the compressed archive in the main application window, not in a Windows Explorer window. This feature is useful because you can easily rename, copy, move, paste, cut and do whatever you do with a regular file in Windows Explorer. You can even extract the file to a network directory or delete it from the compressed archive with ease.
The Create item couldn't be more intuitive. When you click on it, a new file dialog window appears asking for the location, name and compression format of the new file. Well, in fact you just need to write a name and press enter, unless you want to change the location or the file compression format. It's as easy as saving a document from your text processor.
The Settings item is to configure file associations and shell integration. You probably won't need to change anything here, but in case you need it, you can do it. Finally, Help is what you must click when you need assistance. But I can't figure out when it will happen, because it's really the easiest file compression utility I've ever seen.
In addition to opening, extracting and creating compressed archives, it supports self extracting files, compressing and sending files by email, integration with virus scanners and integrity check.
However, you won't find anything more sophisticated than that. It can check file integrity but it can't repair corrupted files. Certainly, it's the easiest alternative around to ALZip, 7zip, QuickZip, PowerArchiver, WinZip, WinRAR, PKZIP, ZipItFree and other file compression software. But the truth is that the ease has a high price. First, because you have to pay for it and second because it's a somehow basic utility.
If you're just looking for a powerful file compression utility to satisfy your daily needs, you should try 7zip, ALZip or QuickZip. If you want more power, and have money to afford it, you can try PowerArchiver, WinZip or WinRAR. But if you feel uncomfortable with too many tools and prefer something more simple and intuitive, then you should try AlphaZip. Warning! For the health of your mind, it shouldn't be easier! |
- It's extremely easy to use.
- You can move, rename, copy, paste, save to network, delete and perform all the regular file operations from Windows Explorer.

- It's not free! And somehow basic!
